First place I visited on arriving in Paris. Very impressed by the beautiful chapel. A good place to start a tour of Paris. The queue for tickets was long but moved quickly. I bought the joint ticket for Sainte Chapelle and the Conciegerie for €10 instead of the €7.50 just for the chapel. You first walk into an outer chapel... more
While this was a beautiful chapel with all of the stories of the bible depicted in stained glass, I was sad to see that the stories that they were depicting were not being practiced in this building. It seemed as a picture of what is happeneing to the church overall in France. They had hired a man to keep silent... more
I agree with some of the previous reviewers; it's OK. The stain glasses are beautiful but the church looks run down. And it's not a functioning church now (I asked one of the ushers). The line to enter was about 20 mins' wait to go through the security. They even closed at lunch hour! So if you are pressed for... more
In May, my 18 year old daughter and I spent a week in Paris. A friend recommended going to a concert at Sainte-Chapelle. We booked our tickets ahead of time online through Classictic but we saw others pay at the door. We listened to Les Solistes Francais string ensemble play a full hour of beautiful music, including Vivaldi's Four Seasons... more
I'm sure it's beautiful, but I'll never know because I was unceremoniosly ejected from the line. The egotistical "doorman" took exception to the fact that I was slow to pay attention to him calling "madam, madam". Of course I didn't know he worked there or that he was speaking to me, but these explanations did not preventing him from insisting... more
This is the best time to visit the Sainte-Chapelle. After a year of scafolding and plastic sheeting, the restoration of the stained-glass windows that represent the Passion of Christ is now completed and all the windows are visible. Take time to read the detailed information available in the upper chapel and understand the complex lecture of the stained-glass windows. To... more
We went the last full day we had in Paris, and did not have any idea what we should expect. The line was long (but not terribly) and you do have to go through the metal detectors. My advice is get the ticket for both the Chapel and the Concergierge (Prison). The ticket is around 13 Euros for both. If... more
This is not a must if you do not have a Museum Pass or if the line is too long. Yes there is quite a bit of stained glass, but let's face it, only a small portion will be backlit during any time of the day. The rest does not look like much. There are more than a few awkward... more
I was pretty disappointed in general since it is quite small and was not as interesting as I thought it would be. It features a main room that is packed with stained glass but other than that, nothing too amazing. I went on a semi-cloudy day and when it was briefly sunny it was quite beautiful, so if you do... more
