The Ailsa Craig is quite well located, with easy access to buses at the top of Leith Walk, perhaps 300 yards away, and only about a ten-minute stroll from Princes Street. The street outside was closed at one end while we were there, so was probably uncharacteristically quiet. The hotel forms part of a quite beautiful terrace and we gathered... more

Fine hotel for a family of four. We spend 6 days in early july in the hotel, which was quite full whole time. Still the hotel ran itself nicely. Room were large and tidy, maybe little old fashioned to some, but we loved it. Bathroom was large and clean and quie new (or recently renovated). Cleanines was good and the... more

We arrived after a long journey only to be told that we couldn't check in until 2pm. When we came back, we had to drag our suitcases up a about four flights of stairs (with no offers of help). Our room was tiny, smelt funny and was very shabby. When we complained about the room and asked to be moved,... more

I went to Edinburgh a couple of weeks before Christmas and booked the Ailsa Craig Hotel. When I arrived the two people who ran the B&B were very friendly. I was given a double room in the basement for 27 pounds a night. I was alone, so the space was quite nice. The bathroom was new and clean, and the... more

I bought Discovery Channel insight guides book to begin with.Page 258 under hotels and a special recommendation note (which I cannot find just now, (advised this hotel has a friendly and helpful staff. It is centrally located on the Edinburgh map. It is very elegant, clean and tidy. All was true. But, the book did not say how surprising the... more

We stayed at this hotel for three nights- to celebrate the new year/ visit edinburgh/ tour the highlands and visit Rosslyn chapel. The hotel is in an excellent location. It took us about 10 minutes walk from the Waverley train station to get there. We had the room on the top floor- Room number 16- This room the huge! The... more

My teenage son and I made our first trip overseas in April 2007 and stayed in Edinburgh at the Ailsa Craig Hotel. It was perfect. We had a double ensuite room with a view of the lovely backyard. The breakfast was very good and filling, and the staff and owners were friendly and graciously gave us new travellers helpful hints.... more

My wife and I stayed here in November 2007. We picked it for it's location, about 15 minutes walk from Waverley Station and Princes Street, It's in a lovely Georgian terraced building on the quiet Royal Terrace. First impressions were of very helpful staff and a tidy reception, but our room was only average. We were on the top floor,... more

This hotel is in a good location and the staff are friendly and helpful but my stay where was a pretty average experience. The room was fine but nothing special and for the price I don't know if it was value for money. The breakfast was pretty gross, I could hardly eat it - cooked tomatoes shouldn't be out of... more

I was booked at this Hotel as part of a Scotland tour and then stayed on after the tour to see Edinburgh. The hotel is located well, although the bus stops are all at the bottom of a hill and require a tough walk uphill at the end of the day. My room was #2, in the basement. It was... more
