We stayed at the Galle Fort for 4 nights during our honeymoon in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. I had read with interest many of the reviews on Trip Advisor, particularly the very few which gave poor marks where the reviewers seemed to be particularly aggrieved with something or other, and I can't think why. This place is fantastic. From... more

What can I say. We stayed here for 4 nights in August towards the end of our month travelling round Sri Lanka. Not only was it the loveliest place we stayed in Sri Lanka, it was also one of the loveliest places I have stayed in the world! FIrstly the building is beautiful and its small too, only about 10... more

On my previous visit to Galle Fort, the hotel had not yet completed renovations, only the cafe was open, but it looked like a place worth revisiting. I was fortunate to return last weekend and it exceeded my expectations. Everything about the hotel exudes luxury, style and serenity. The attention to detail in the renovation and furnishing of this historic... more

From the moment we walked in the door till the moment we left, it was absolute paradise. Our amazing library suite with 2 enormous four poster beds and the most beautiful decor, opened on to the delightful courtyard and gorgeous pool surrounded by lush vegetation. In the evening, the lighting turned it into a real life fairytale. Our dinner on... more

The Galle Fort Hotel has been designed to appear beautiful. All the fixtures and fittings are exquisite and on the face of it it is a very attractive hotel. However, it just was not a very nice place to stay. The common space is very small and does not allow for any privacy. The pool is decorative rather than functional.... more

Three years ago, when delia stayed with us, Sri Lanka and the Galle area were still recovering from the devastating tsunami which hit the coastline less than twelve months earlier. Galle was one of the worst hit areas and over 4,000 local people died. Galle Fort Hotel spent much of those twelve months helping with emergency relief and the rebuilding...

What a brilliant end to our stay in sri lanka. The staff were excellent, the room out of this world and the food was of an extremely high standard. Although pricy it is well worth a stay for a few nights just for the experience. The hotel is relativly small and intimate but they managed to cater well for my... more

We arrived in Galle by bus from Tangalla, hot and tired, sweating under backpacks which had somehow got inextricably tied to the bus, and bypassed the touts, so we thought, to walk into Galle Fort and find a place to stay. The Galle Fort Hotel would normally have been outside our backpack price range, but we treated ourselves for the... more

We spent four nights in the Galle Fort Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A comfortable, unique, interesting and relaxing place with discrete friendly service. It captures the exotic and old-word feel of Galle itself - but with hot running water, a swimming pool and a wine list for one's indulgence. We plan to go back. more

Galle is a small place with a lot of options in terms of hotels - mostly smaller boutique style places. The Galle Fort Hotel, whilst beautifully decorated and with loads of personality, was a bit disappointing overall. The food was average - which in a country which such delicacies is shameful. The rooms are large (I had a pool side... more

Dear Em, Many thanks for your kind comments about the hotel and for your review. We are very flattered that our small hotel has come anywhere near greatness. Especially as it is one of the most affordable in the area. Most of our best reviews on tripadvisor come from guests who choose to stay with us for several days and...

Not yet been back a week, but couldn't wait to tell you about our wonderful stay in Sri Lanka and at the Galle Fort Hotel. Being a little out of season found the hotel quiet and very welcoming. After a long transfer from the mountain areas we were greeted with welcome refreshements and shown to our beautiful suite. We were... more
