We spent two nights during the busy Obon season in the Kyoto Hotel Okura. I booked the rooms directly through the hotel’s web-site and had absolutely no problems with the reservations. This hotel is not mentioned in a lot of the travel books, and I can’t imagine why, because it was a wonderful hotel. I think it may have changed... more

The Okura is well located and great value. The rooms are spacious and clean, comparable to the Granvia, which we stayed at in March. Guest services is very helpful and the business center is easy to use. Okura is extremely well-situated within Kyoto - close to shopping arcades, close to the subway and many bus routes (kyoto is a bus... more

My 18 year old niece and I spent 6 nights at the Okura as part of a 16 day trip. From the moment we were greeted at the front door by friendly, efficient, English speaking bellhops, to the time we checked out, our stay was wonderful! The lobby has an old world charm without the stuffiness of classic 'old world'... more

I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. I am working temporarily in Tokyo and wanted a convenient and comfortable base from which to enjoy the sights of Kyoto with my visiting family. The Okura was perfect. The hotel is centrally located, within a block of the river and easy reach of the eastern sights. It sits right on top of... more

This was an absolutely gorgeous hotel, inside and out. It was perfectly located, close by shops, bars, restaurants, and antique stores. Loved it and quite close to the subway, but with so many interesting stores close by, why subway when you can walk. Absolutely huge rooms. more

I highly recommend the Okura. Its location is excellent. Close to the traditional district and lots of restaurant. The subway is in the basement -perfect for castle and Western temple district-and the bus outside of the hotel gets you quickly to N Kyoto. Rooms are pleasant (fairly spacious) with bathrooms having a separate shower cubicle. Ask for a high floor... more

I liked the Okura: it's a good business class hotel in a city that doesn't have the presence of all the major western hotel chains. I had a short stay in May courtesy of a travel & hotel package from JTB. I stayed in a single person room which was adequately-sized. Let's say every square foot is put to use... more

Kyoto is amazing. Best place to visit in Japan. We spent 3 full days wondering temples, shrines and gardens and didn't get enough. This hotel is located on the subway line, so it is convient to get to from any direction. (the bus is the most effiecent way around town- make sure you get the day pass it pays off... more

We stayed three nights in Hotel Okura last December. The hotel is located on the east side of the river. It's very close to shopping and restaurant, but to go to most historical sites on the west side, you need to across the river and walk at least 20 minutes. First day we walked everywhere and explored a lot, but... more
