We stayed in this ryokan for 5 nights and I should say that it was just perfect. The family running this place are so nice and polite you would not believe. It is expensive but it is what it should be expected from a ryokan. The location is hard to beat since it is 5 min walking distance to Kyoto... more

After a week staying in a large business hotel in Tokyo, I decided to spend an evening in this ryokan before venturing on to the Kyoto Westin Miyako. The ryokan was recommended by a colleague who had stayed there recently. This was a treat and a highlight of my two-week stay in Japan. The location is quite convenient. It is... more

I travelled to Kyoto with my 17 year old niece this summer and really wanted to experience a stay in a ryokan. It was perfect, the rooms were spotless and big (after having stayed in one in Tokyo this was great), the hosts/owners we so welcoming and friendly, I wanted to adopt them as parents!! The wife was so sweet... more

Our family of 4 (2 adults + 10 yr old & 2 yr old) stayed at this charming ryokan for 4 nights in June and were so sad to leave. We really can't even begin to explain how lovely the hosts are! The owners are so welcoming and went out of their way to make our 2 daughters feel at... more

We stayed 3 nights at this charming Japanese Inn (ryokan), a 10 minute walk from the Kyoto train station. The Innkeepers are incredibly welcoming, courteous and kind. We had a traditional tatami matted room--I believe we were in the only one with a private bath. It could be divided into 2 separate rooms with a sliding door which we did... more

As we planned for our honeymoon to Japan, my wife-to-be wanted to experience the Japanese traditional ryokan and there is no better place to live the experience in Kyoto, and Kikokuso! Its located around 7 mins walk from Kyoto station. As we arrived in Kyoto for the first time and were tight with time, We did not attempt to find... more

This was the first time we have stayed in a traditional Ryokan and we found this place by researching through tripadvisor. Although we only stayed for one night this ryokan gave us a truely memorable evening in Kyoto. The hosts were so accomodating and they were a very nice couple. We stayed in the newer section of the Ryokan with... more

On our first ever trip to Japan, all the advice I was reading was to make sure to include a stay in a ryokan for a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality. Let me say the search for a property was overwhelming, but I finally settled on Kikokuso for the charm and proximity to Kyoto Station. The cost was not cheap;... more

I chose Kikokuso largely based on the reviews on TripAdvisor.com. And I was extremely happy. Everyone who works at Kikokuso is tremendously friendly and the service may be the best I have ever experienced anywhere. Kikokuso is beautiful and is perfectly situated to visit all of Kyoto (and the surrounding areas). It is close to the main Kyoto train station... more

We stayed at Kikokuso for 6 nights in April 2007 and had a wonderful experience. Kikokuso is a small, family-run ryokan near the Kyoto train station. The family speaks some English - we speak no Japanese and got along fine. The rooms are comfortable - we had 3 futons for my husband, me, and 4-year-old daughter, plus a separate room... more
