This is a hostel-like accommodation, although with a twist, maybe due to the place itself. It is an old house with crazy layout and depending on how hard-core you are or how much you don't care, you will find the place basic but acceptable, or dirty, or very dirty (cockroaches in the kitchen). Pension la cuesta is definitely one of the best hostel in downtown San Jose, the staff were very friendly and helpful, they gave me some free maps and bus schedule which was great. The location is great and there are bunches of restaurants, shops ,and supermarkets around, also the rooms are quite clean and comfortable. it was a wonderful experience... more

Every one at this pension was very friendly and helpful. There are lockers available to store valuables...you need your own lock. Breakfasts are Ok. Rooms and bathrooms clean....but it really was average for everything but location. In particular I would have like to have been able to read at night with out having to get out of bed to turn... more

I stayed at the pension for 7 days. I stayed in a private room and i spent 8$ each days, they gave me discount becuase i stayed 1 week and i taked some tours with them. Can't imagine what the bad experience would be. I am an older single woman who had dental work done. Not wanting to spend money on hotels, I was well pleased with what $18 a night bought me. It was safe, acceptably clean, pleasant people, right round the corner from some excellent restaurants. Taxis always ready to ferry me around. Nice... more
