The best place to stay in NOLA

This hotel is my favorite place to stay in New Orleans. Chartres St is in the center of the French Quarter so it is ideally located, but it is away from the noise and traffic. It is an easy and safe walk to everything you want to do in the French Quarter or to the street cars for a trip uptown.

If you walk over one block to Royal and turn toward Canal you can buy a three day unlimited pass for the street car and the bus for $12. Go to the conveniencestore on the right hand side of Royal between Iberville and Canal.

Worst W Hotel Experience Ever

W New Orleans - French Quarter is not deserving of the W Hotel brand name or identity. The front desk staff was crass, rude, not helpful, kind or even approachable. I purposefully seek out the W Hotel brand for one reason - exemplary customer service levels. This experience has left my husband and me with a poor perception of the W Hotel brand. I am shocked at the lack of experience, customer service, hospitality - the front desk staff acted as if we were an inconvenience to them rather than a guest.

If you are traveling with family members of any age - young or old, we recommend staying in the Garden District of New Orleans. The French Quarter was dirty and reeked of trash.

Modern, yet quiet in middle of French Quarter

The wonderful room was a bit smaller than I anticipated but still no complaints. There was a movie night in the courtyard (I didn’t get to go) but still, I love having the option. The cabanas in the couryard area was a nice way to get away before you go out to the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street.

Nice hotel with friendly staff

My husband and I recently traveled to NOLA for a friend’s 40th birthday party. We stayed at the W French Quarter and found the hotel to be wonderful - the rooms and bathrooms were clean and spacious, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient. The hotel also has a great courtyard to lounge around in and have a few drinks. We would definitely stay at the hotel again.

All style, little substance

Hotel is well designed but not well maintained. Shower leaked, door handles missing. One of the four very small drawers did not open. No breakfast at restaurant and coffee from cart was undrinkable. No lobby, but a nice patio with a tiny swimming pool. Great location, but not worth the money and not up to W hotel standards.

W Hotel

We had a nice stay at the W in the French Quarter. We had requested a king bed and received two doubles which was a bit uncomfortable. The room was clean and tidy and the gumball machine was a cute decoration but not replenished for us to enjoy. The noise from the other guests was disruptive at 4 in the morning as was the music that was played in the courtyard by the W at 10:00 AM, however, at 12:00 PM & thru-out the day, the music in the courtyard was lovely. The restaurant was good, Dick Brennans, Bacco, but honestly there was not a lot of offering for room service nor was it available 24 hrs a day. Sometimes its nice to just enjoy the luxuries of a fine hotel and order room service and rent a movie. The Bliss bath products are really nice but the housekeepers didn’t fullfill them daily and I had to request more shampoo, lotion and towels twice. The bellmen were fabulous! They really made the stay.

I miss it already!

I loved this hotel! After many stays in ’charming’ NOLA hotels - I decided to follow my heart for a recent trip. I’m so glad I did! Room was great - just wish I had asked for one facing the courtyard. And a little annoying that room service closed at 9! Concierge was very helpful wiht ordering options though. Sitting in the courtyard sipping a bloody mary on a sunny spring day - what a perfect way to start the day in New Orleans!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There’s a great little cafe’/diner right across the street. Totally worth the wait. Order there to go and eat it in the courtyard.

Great Hotel

The hotel was in a great location in the heart of the French Quarter. It was a short walk to all the action. The hotel is not large but that can’t be expected while in the French Quarter with the smaller, older buildings. But the room decor was great, the service fantastic, the bathroom large and recently updated and the bed extra comfortable. At night it was a little noisy since we were on the street but again, you’re in the French Quarter, if you want quite go somewhere else. We will definitely return to this hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Stop at K-Paul’s restaurant down the street. It’s Paul Prudhomme’s place and it was fantastic. Make reservations. We also enjoyed, the Napolean House just a block futher east on Chartres. This is more of a casual lunch place but the building and decor were great.

Not as impressive

Should have more shower caps on sight. Not as good as other W hotels. Too expensive for what we got.

Not Recommended. Run down and shanty

I highly suggest booking at the full W hotel which only 2-3 blocks from french quarter. This was not worth the reputation of a W. I will never book in a boutique hotel ever again!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Visit the "Oak Tree Planatation." Very famous spot used in countless movies and paintings.

The W in French Quarter not 5-star quality

We were looking forward to our stay at the W. We are regular visitors to New Orleans. We have seen the W from the outside and liked the look and the location. But we were surprised to find the rooms to be no more than 3-star quality: small, inadequate sound separation to bathroom, large but poor bathroom layout, outrageously expensive honor bar, etc. Staff seemed more interested in talking with each other or on the phone, then serving guests. Some surface glitter, but no depth.

Will not be going back

This W is in the Quarter, in an old bldg, so don’t expect the usual clean, crisp modern W. The bldg is old, and even though the furnishings are nice, you are staying in an old bldg, and it’s hard to disguise that. Our room seemed dingy and depressing to me. Also, facing the street, it was loud - all night. Main complaint was service - it was poor. We wanted a room service snack, but there was no menu in the room. We called to request one - 20 minutes later, no menu. We went directly down to the restaurant where it took us another 15 minutes to get a drink and a menu to take back up to the room where we ordered three appetizers. 15 minutes later we get a call that they can’t do 2 of the appetizers as room service, because they aren’t on the room service menu, which, they say, is in our room. I then say, that’s the problem, its not, and they say they’ll send one up. Meanwhile, an hour has gone by, and there’s no time for room service before we have to go out, so we go out on the street and get a lucky dog from a cart vendor to tide us over.

Traveler's tip on dining

We ate dinner at Emeril’s where the service was wonderful, but the meal mediocre - disappointing. We had breakfast at Brennan’s - wonderful.
