Great , quiet location away from most of the French Quarter hustle and bustle, but still close enough to everything. Nice accomodations and good service, although we did get a kick out of the "retro" 80’s room decor. The pool is lovely and the free parking was definitely a bonus.

Comfortable and Convenient...Try it!

The hotel was in a great location near the French Quarter with free parking. It had a quaint European flair which was nice and the rooms were large, the only downside would be that the bathrooms were quite dated and the tv was really old. I would definitely recommend this hotel, it wasn’t your normal cookie cutter kind of place.

French Quarter Seclusion

This hotel is in the perfect location. Secluded in the French Quarter. Walking distance from the bells and whistles of Borubon Street. Free hotel parking is a plus. Service and staff are warm and friendly.

Just like coming home for this New Orleans native!

I grew up in New Orleans and hung out with travelling friends at Le Richelieu many times over the years, as well as recommending its bar as a local meeting place, and so on. Now, having relocated post-Katrina, whenever I have business in the Crescent City, I look forward to my stays at the hotel as much as any aspect of returning to my birthplace. I’m unfailingly greeted and treated like family by every staff member. This is the French Quarter in which my grandfather grew up--not the tourist-y theme park version that has swallowed up so much traditionally-run business.A quiet, relaxed, beautiful setting, a knowledgeable, good-humored, caring staff..this is the real thing. It’s always a pleasure to come home to Le Richelieu!

Sweet.

Lovely, quiet location in the residential district of the French Quarter, an easy, safe walk to restaurants and clubs on Frenchman Street. Old timey hotel with a real key that you pick up and leave at the desk, (may not be for you if you want total anonymity, but is not intrusive.)Staff friendly and helpful. King room was large with a walk in closet big enough to sleep in, clean, everything worked. Didn’t partake of the breakfast, but it smelled good. Enjoyed a beer at the bar. Saw families, groups and older couples staying there.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Go to Frenchman Street across Esplanade if you are looking for a variety of great music.

Needs spricing up, but therise great.

Le Richelieu has been our hotel of choice for years. While the hotel is a little dated and shabby around some edges, the prices are great, and the Lower Quarter location is a blessed respite from the raunchiness of Bourbon Street. We would probably stay in other hotels more often, but the low prices are accentuated by the no charge/park & lock attended parking, a saving of $30 a night average. First-time visitors to New Orleans may want to be closer to the craziness, but people who know the city (particularly those who drive instead of fly in) will choose Le Richelieu. It may not be the Ritz-Carlton, but then, it’s not trying to be.

Great in the off season

A nice, old, clean hotel with lots of history, and it’s in a quite neighborhood. We had a small, private balcony, when we were in the room we had the doors open and out enjoying the weather. A close walk to anywhere in the french quater.

Lots of history in the area

loved it

Our 1st trip to New Orleans, and we couldn’t have been happier! The staff was great- very helpful and friendly. They made excellent restaurant recommendations. We will definitely stay here again when we go back (soon, hopefully!) Nice, quiet location close to Decatur St., and an awesome pool. Highly recommended. (We are a married couple 33 and 35 yrs old)

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t be afraid to bring your own drinks poolside! It’s perfectly acceptable ;)

Location, Location, Location

You can’t beat the location of this hotel. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and compliant. I asked for coffee pot and 5 minutes later there was a complete service tray, no extra cost. This is not a sterile hotel, it’s in the period of old New Orleans and like staying at an old relative’s home for the weekend. Enjoy.

Traveler's tip on dining

Don’t forget to eat at Pascale’s Manale Restaurant on Napoleon Ave. Truly the best of everything to offer.

Not bad, not great

This hotel is ideally located on the fringes of the French Quarter - not noisy in this area at all. The room we had was very dated - the bathroom didn’t look like it had been renovated in more than 30 years. There was dirt ground-in to the tiles... However, the a/c worked OK, the TV was adequate (who’s watching TV in NOLA anyways?)and the bed was comfortable. We had a nice view of the street, with a balcony off the room. For the price, this was not a bad place to stay, and I’d stay there again. If you have a chance, check out the manager’s office where signed photographs of all the celebs who’ve stayed there cover the walls... Paul and Linda McCartney, Debbie Harry, etc.

Quaint hideaway

we enjoyed our stay. We went with another couple. Our rooms were on separate floors, we asked to be on the same floor and the staff accomodated us. The drawbacks were that our friends had a noisy ceiling fan and they did not have a fridge nor microwave in the room. Our room had a small apartment sized fridge w/ freezer but no microwave. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The staff are locals. They can point you in the right direction for good food at economical prices.

Will book this hotel for next trip

The hotel was great. The staff was friendly and kept the hotel clean. We didn’t have any problems during our stay. What I really loved is that when you leave the hotel, you leave your key at the front desk so you don’t have to worry about keeping up with it when you’re out in the Quarter. We weren’t in our room very much, but I would definitely stay again. The free parking was a plus. I would recommend Le Richelieu to any of my friends.

Great Location

Older hotel but very clean. No coffee maker in room. Great small patio cafe with delicious breakfast and light lunch. Great wait staff. Free parking right behind hotel with unlimited in and out is a plus. Air conditioning left us warm but ceiling fan kept us comfortable. Good value.

Ambience

The hotel is located in the quiet North End of the Quarter, four short blocks from the Frenchmen Street Jazz clubs and six blocks from Jackson Square. The hotel staff went beyond the call of duty in recommending restaurants and helping me with a wifi problem. Both the people staying with me had no complaints, an unusual occurrence. The free parking sold me, but the ambience impressed me. I’d stay there again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Snug harbor jazz club was great, but eat elsewhere. The Natchez riverboat cruise was worth the inflated cost.

Excellent Location

We loved the location of this hotel. Basically on a few blocks from everything. The hotel desk was extremely friendly, the pool was clean and nice after the long, hot days, and the free parking for our rental car was excellent - they actually have their own parking lot behind the hotel that is watched by a security guard! We would definitely book this hotel again.

Traveler's tip

Don’t be afraid to drive in New Orleans. It is a lot easier than you’d imagine, but also know that from Le Richelieu you can walk anywhere.

Great Location

Stayed here for one night while passing through New Orleans and was very satisfied with this hotel. It is in a great location in the French Quarter within walking distance of many area attractions, shopping, restaurants, and Bourbon Street. Close enough to all the action, but still quiet enough to get a good night’s rest. The hotel also offers FREE parking which is a nice feature!
