“Excellent!! Highly recommend!!”

Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku

I read many good comments on this hotel here. So I decided to book it. Now I can say, there is no fake comment here for sure!!

Just come back from Japan. We have stayed 3 nights in Oakwood apartment Shinjuku. Originally I thought we had to walk far away from JR shinjuku station. But I was wrong. We have only walked along the main street and arrived there easily, within 10mins(for slow speed walking). No need to go there by taxi.

The staffs at front desk speak fluently English, even better than me. Communication is not a barrier.

The room is tiny, but it is no doubt in Tokyo as the land value is extremly high. So I have no complaint on this. The hotel is very new. The facilities in the room is amazing! We have washed our clothes every night as there is a washing machine inside the room. Besides, there are DVD player, Hi-Fi, LCD TV, microwave oven and even rice cooker! We were arranged to stay on 13/F, very quiet. The soundproof is very good. I have never hear any sound from other rooms.

The hotel has no restaurant. But it is ok to me as I prefer to dine out, and many restaurants just nearby. 2 computers provide 24-hour internet access service on b1 floor, free of charge.

The price is not high, even lower than many many other hotel in shinjuku. I have to paid only about US$100 for a double bed room per night.

“Beautiful Apartment”

We managed to get an 87 square metre 3 bedroom apartment on the 26th floor with an incredible view over half of Tokyo for 3 nights at only AU$315 a night. I had to wait until 2 weeks before we needed it and then email to ask for a vacancy. I had 2 hotel rooms reserved in case we couldn't get an apartment, and they would have cost over $500 per night for the 2 of them (Century Southern Tower), so getting this apartment saved us quite a bit of money.

Yes, the noise from the railway lines does go on late into the night and start up early the next morning. I'm a light sleeper and without my earplugs Iwouldn't have been able to sleep. Everyone else slept fine as noise doesn't worry them. My advice would be to take earplugs with you if you're a light sleeper - I always use them when travelling. I also turned the air-con down low so I could pull the doona up over my ears and not get too hot.

The apartment itself was absolutely beautiful. It had so many hi tech gadgets though that we had to spend a while working out how to use them. There is a book with instructions in English for most things if you have the patience to read it. We accidentally set off the fire alarm whilst trying to use the intercom, so you have to be careful what buttons you press.

There was only one bathroom, but at least the toilet was separate which was a necessity for 4 people. The furnishings were very high quality - lots of thick, fluffy white towels, a really comfortable bed etc. We had a queen size bed in one bedroom, a double in another and a single in the third. There were also 3 huge flatscreen TVs, 2 of them in bedrooms.

It's a bit of a walk from Shinjuku Station, especially when it's hot and you've been walking around for hours beforehand. if necessary you can take a taxi for $7 which we did when we had luggage with us, but it isn't really necessary.

Our 17 year old son had been wanting to find a good gym the whole trip and finally did at the Oakwood. Ididn't see it but he said it was good. We used the washing machine but couldn't get the dryer function to work properly. We ended up putting the washing into the coin dryer in the basement. Maybe we just weren't pressing the right buttons or something.

There are several convenience stores and restaurants not too far away. We ended our trip in Tokyo and this was a memorable place to stay in for our last 3 nights. I would highly recommend the 3 bedroom apartments here to any group or family wanting a nice apartment stay in Tokyo.

“great location, great value!”

Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku

Jul 4, 2008

We just came from Tokyo and I have to say that the stay at the Oakwood Shinjuku was more than expected. Location is great and convenient for everything, even cheap dining: if you like japanese food there are plenty of noodle places where you can have your meal for less than $10 - if you no much into asian foods (like me)just walk right of the hotel acroos the street there is an "italian" place. Value Food - do not expect great italian but if you miss bread and pasta as much as i did after 16 days in ASIA, that food tasted like heaven.
Do not miss the sky lounge at the hotel - great view day and nite!.
Even getting to the hotel was sinple = we were dropped off by the limousine bus at the Shinjuku West. U cross the street rght there and walk to your left - at the mall - jut follow the street - walk for about 15 minutes and you will be in the hotel. I have to agree that the you can hear the train from your room, so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a front facing flat.

“Odd design”

Stayed in a studio there for 5 nights. This is a strange place : everything has been made with an obvious effort to target an upscale market : flat screen TV, DVD player, multiple cushions on the bed, fancy bathroom.

But it seems like there wasn't any money left for soundproofing... The hotel is next to at least 3 major train lines, forget about sleeping before 2am or after 5am if you are a light sleeper. Also, the kitchen is quite nicely made with all the needed amenities, but there is no table or counter to serve as a dining area.

Lastly, they rent out a room for 2 with a semi-double bed, this is only going to work out for slim individuals unless someone is willing to sleep on the floor.
