we just spent a week in Sirenis Tropical and came back with some amazing memories. We were greeted with cold drinks, friendly staff and clean resort. The beach was well groomed and plenty of chairs were available. We were busy during the day with activities such as Beach / pool aerobics, volleyball, playing tennis and just tanning. The pool is huge, with 2 swim up bars at each end and another shallow pool for kids. Food was pretty good; breakfast buffet, lunch on the beach BBQ, and buffet for dinner which everyday had a good selection of everything. There was a mexican night when they served tacos and fajitas, another night there was a whole rotisserie turkey, sweet potatoe chips just to name a few. A week long stay will allow you to 2 a la carte restaurants and I would highly recommend Japanese. The chef was very professional and the food was quite authentic. Casino had a few tables and 2 handfulls of slot machines. Nightly entertaiment was good, the entertaiment crew are very energetic & enthusiastic bunch. Room was always cleaned perfectly and we never had shortage of hot water. I would highly recommend this resort and would go back there myself tomorrow!!!

“DONT GET THE HENNA”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

Jul 10, 2008
7/8 found this review helpful

All in all our stay was good. The grounds of the resort have already been described in numerous other reviews, and they have done a good job doing so.

However, what I have to say is much more important, and can make a permanent difference in your life, so pay attention.

While we were there, my daughter got a henna tattoo. Now it is scarring, and we found out that it was actually PPD, or 'black henna,' not real henna. There are numerous websites you can check out to see the awful effects of this substance. It scars your skin, and enters into your bloodstream, possibly causing liver or kidney damage, making you more prone to cancer in those areas.

PLEASE DO NOT GET A HENNA TATTOO!

The experience is awful. It normally takes up to three weeks to see the full effects of a reaction, which means that it won't be until after you get home that you notice there is a problem. An easy way to tell if it is real henna or not is to find out how long it takes for the dye to stain your skin, and how long the tattoo is expected to last. Real Henna takes in between 6 hours and 2 days to fully stain your skin, and it will be a brownish or a reddish color. Black Henna stains your skin in an hour or two, and lasts two weeks. So, when you ask the artist how long it is before you can wash the dye off, if he says an hour or two, get out of there quick!

I have tried to contact the resort to let them know this sort of practice is not safe, or acceptable. It is unclear to me if the artist himself, a Yugoslavian man, knows it is unsafe or not. He seemed to think everything is fine.

Please do not get a tattoo on this resort. I have checked online and found out that black henna is very very common in South and Central America, as well as throughout the Caribbean. Save yourself a massive amount of stress and worry and doctors appointments, and just avoid the tattoos altogether. Black Henna is actually banned in Canada, and vendors of it are able to be brought up on criminal charges. That is how serious the danger is.

Please Please Please, stay safe in the caribbean. Most of the people we travelled with had ear aches, swimmer's ear, and we thought that was kind of unfortunate. Imagine our surprise when we found out my 11 year old daughter was going to have scars on her ankles that may never go away.

Please be careful.

WOW.... If you havent been to this BEAUTIFUL place and you have often thought about it, what are you waiting for......... Me and my husband have just spent two glorious weeks there for our honeymoon. Paradise really does exist, it is definatly worth the long flight. It was a nine hour flight and just over an hour by coach from the airport to the hotel- WOW what a place. As you pull up to the Sirenis Tropical you think Oh god what have i done!! Trust us you will be AMAZED this place is HUGE. Everywhere is pristene it knocks you off your feet. The bars are spotlessly clean, the MACAO restaurant is amazing its all buffet style food and lots of puddings to go with it. The staff in there are awesome, everyone is very friendly making sure you have got what you need or if there is anything else you need. The massive army of staff are always busy no matter what time of day or night it is and it goes to show with just how Beautiful everywhere is. It certainly took our breathe away we were so overwhelmed with there we just stood there in aww!!!! The gardens are very very beautiful, the beach WOW what a beach, the sand was soft and the gorgeous turquoise sea was so warm you didnt want to get out of it. If you want a holiday with as little to do as possible then this is the place for you, dont get me wrong there were fab excursions to go on but you dont have to go on them if you dont want too. The Beach and the pools were good enough for us. Thomas Cook girl Becky was an absolute star. The room we stayed in was pretty good too, it was cleaned everyday, fridge topped up everyday with soft drinks and water you do get through alot of it. There is still so much to say about this place and trust me it is all good no negative all positive. The only thing left to say is GO GO GO you will not regret it........

Me and my boyfriend went to Sirenis 2 weeks ago. It was fantastic holiday. The bad reviews about resort, location etc. are not truth. If you are person who likes happy people, clean rooms, great food and fantastic servis than you will like it. Since we came to the hotel we had a great time.

ROOM: Room was great. We had no problem with anything. Well there was something wrong with aircondition when we arrived but we just said on reception it didn't work and they fixed it within 1 hour.

SERVIS: Servis really great. As I said if any problem they fix it ASAP. Cleaner lady clean our room every day. She did the bed (left flowers on it which was really sweet), change the towels, everything was just perfect.

BEACH AND POOL: Fantastic. Beach is clean. There is no problem to get a towel or chair as I've read in some reviews.

RESORT: Resort is full of happy people who will do anything for you. You just ask. Animation people are so much fun. When you get there join them and you will never get bored. They have a great shows every night. After show there is always life music Sirenis band which is great and then if you still don't have enough.

FOOD: Excellent!!! Lots of choice. You have everything there. If you don't like something there is plenty of other food what to choose from. I can not understand people who said that food was disgusting. I really love everything. We gained so much weigh. And drinks fab!!! When you go there definitely try Mama juana (Dominican drink) it's fantastic.

... if you going to the Sirenis prepare yourself for your best holiday. I am sure you are going to have a great time.

“Quick Review”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

Jun 27, 2008
5/10 found this review helpful

Finally have the time to write a review! I always hated long reviews with no real value for people deciding on a resort so my review will include the questions about Tropicale that I ended up answering myself:

Food:
-mostly not amazing (especially the buffet) but that should not be a surprise
-steak (beef) in steak restaurant is decent but everything else (as in the appetizers) is mediocre at best
-Crepe restaurant is highly recommended! (main couse and desert were really good)
-seafood restaurant is medicore
--if you are looking for good lobster like we were, you are in the wrong country so don't waste your money

Accomodations:
-stayed in unit J
-i would recommend it because it is right in the middle of the resort (not too long a walk to go to the beach or get food from the main building)
-be sure to request a suite on the 2nd floor to avoid ants or bug problems that some experience on the 1st floor
-get the room safe
-the rooms look old but are acceptable (oddly, the bathroom is very nicely renovated)
-bed mattresses are hard and mildly uncomfortable

Drinks:
-the "Mama Juana" shot is highly recommended (it's very good for men I was told =D)
-bar staff were acceptable....I never bothered tipping them but I always got what I wanted by staring at them for a while
-however, my girlfriend was able to get whatever she wanted instantly =(

Entertainment
-the animation team is friendly and very enthusiastic
-they also performed in the evening shows which are not spectacular at all (have to admire their energy level and enthusiasm though)
-the night shows that we saw were sometimes inappropriate for young children as sex was a major theme

Facilities
-archery is a very small enclosed area with ONE bullseye and ONE bow and arrow with ONE staff who retreives the arrow for you after you shoot it (now imagine doing this with multiple guests lining up to try)
-Pools and pool bars are nicely designed and clean when we were there
-the people running the beach activities (such as kayak rentals etc...) are not very nice until you tip them/compliment them =)
-if you don't want to bother with tipping them, you may also bring the drinks from the bar which is just as effective
-once you get on their good side they will be willing to let you rent the various equipments with little resistence. They will also give you lessons and tip (such as how to PROPERLY use the catamaran and areas where you can snorkel to find lots of fish)
-to see fish on your own, bring bread from the buffet out with you to deeper waters near the reef and spread it in the water
-there is para-sailing and banana boat rides on the beach for a fee

Beach
-sand is groomed every morning and trash is removed
-DR sand is golden so the water will seem murky/cloudy if you are used to cuban beaches (this makes snorkelling a lot less fun)
-there is a series of huge coral reefs right in front of the beach (it is brown in colour and very unattractive)

Other Information
-do not wander off the designated resort beach area as the vendors adjacent to the resort are very pushy and will try to hustle you into bringing them food from the hotel
-everything in the stores is extremely expensive
-bring mosquito repellant, and lots of it
-bring aloe to deal with sunburns......veeerry useful when you need it
-if your electronics include a middle prong (the grounding prong) it will not fit in the sockets in your room

Overall, a decent resort and well worth the price we paid for which was $850 CAD all included.
