This hotel had a very nice pool area and the beach was a few yards away-NO LIFEGUARDS on the beach so be prepared. The hotel did not offer all-inclusive and it showed. Breakfast for two adults and two children would run at least $90.00. The kids programs are not free they cost about $65.00 per day and to say the least was empty most days. They have no water sport activities on the beach but do offer excursions. They have nothing to do at night but sit by the bar and listen to piano music or a CD being played on the equipment. On the island, be patient service is slow. Old San Juan was very nice if you like cobble stone streets, vintage stores and old Spanish style store fronts. The rain forest was interesting as well the way the ecosystem works is amazing! So if you are going to this hotel rent a car and get out and do something because the hotel is BORING AND OVERPRICED! By the way do self parking with the rental because they charge about $30.00 for valet. Lastly, the city of Fajardo has a Wal-mart which is a few minutes from the hotel.

“Great Time!”

We vacationed here from July 3 - 8, 2008, from California. The resort is beautiful - well manicured landscape, gorgeous sunsets (see photos), and singing coqui's (PR's national frog) which add to the tropical ambiance.

First, as you have read before, the food and drinks are shockingly expensive. For example, my girlfriend ordered 3 pina coladas at the poolside Tiki Bar, and asked the bartender to add a little more Rum. WRONG thing to do! The price for 3 went from $30.00 to $48.50! - Tip, buy a bottle (from a local store), order one round, keep the cup and make your own drinks. As for the food, we did splurge on the breakfast buffet ($25.00) but ate out at local restaurants near by, (Richie's, Don Pepe, and La Terraza), all had good, authentic, Puerto Rican food. We did NOT have a car, which was not bad at all because a cab trip from the resort cost $10.00 each way to the local restaurants - much better than paying $30.00 a day to park your rented car.

We also did the excursions through the hotel, which included transportation "to and from" in the price, which again I thought was reasonable.

The room was comfortable, no complaints. Pool area was great, but true, if you want to "lay out" at the adult pool - get there early. Bartenders were welcoming and there were a few "cuties" which we enjoyed. The beach water was beautiful, however not as "turquoise" as I have experienced in other parts of the Caribbean, ie; Cancun, or Cozumel, Mexico.

One thing I regretted, I did not take advantage of the pool slide until my last day! I had a BLAST on that! Oh, and I also enjoyed the poolside entertainment, D.J.'s and one-man bands. Pretty cool!

All in all, it was a great experience! A nice way to celebrate my BFF's 40th birthday and Fourth of July!

“a great resort”

We just left the resort and we have had the most wonderful time. The resort has its issues, but there are a few things you can do which, I believe, may make the difference between and great stay and a so-so one –
1 – you MUST rent a car at the airport!!! The only disgruntled guests we met were those who did not rent a car and thus felt trapped by the high restaurant prices. You will pay about the same for a week’s car rental as you will for the shuttle to and from the hotel for 4 people (no joke), and yes, it is $15/night for self park and $20 for valet but you will make that up and MORE with one meal eaten outside the resort every other day. That doesn’t include the savings on tours (a lot more expensive if the hotel shuttles you back and forth) and the fun of exploring this island.
2 – you should register with Wyndham rewards program – not only did we get a great deal, but they left us a note saying they upgraded us to an ocean view room b/c we were in the rewards program and we got a welcome amenity of sodas and fresh fruit. They have a great summer special with a VIP discount card included which was a great deal (stay 2 nights and get 2 free)
The hotel itself is, as many other guests have commented, beautiful on the outside but a little worn on the inside – nothing terrible and the main thing for me, is that it was not dirty, just a little worn (scuff marks on the walls, some stains on the carpet in the hallway etc) but really, it did not detract from our vacation at all. The staff is WONDERFUL and eager to please and the food was all fine, but we didn’t eat at the resort a whole lot b/c there were so many interesting and cheaper options within minutes. The prices in the sit down restaurants are high as are the drinks, but the 2 outdoor cafes (Seabreeze and the Tiki Hut) had sandwiches around $10-12 which is what you would expect at any resort. Our favorite places to eat off the hotel grounds were – (all are 5 min away or less and all served PR food)
La Parilla – on Luquillo beach – this was the best meal we had. Not a real kiosk though, it is a sit down restaurant with entrees mostly in the $20 range but FANTASTIC.
Any kiosk on Luquillo Beach – they serve similar but oh so good food. The four of us ate dinner for $15!! There are not that many other places in the world where you can safely eat “street food”.
Antojito’s – at the turnoff to the hotel – friendly, inexpensive (entrees $10 or less) and breezy.
Ritchie’s – up on the hill, romantic, spectacular view, Ritchie comes by all the tables. Not cheap - entrees $20-30 but worth it for the whole experience
We also did so many great day trips, hiking to La Mina Falls at El Yunque, taking a 2 hour trail ride at Hacienda Carabali (5 min from resort) where you swim in a river half way through the ride – ($60/adult), a snorkel trip with Spread Eagle II ($70 adults, $50 kids) and then we spent two days at the hotel boogie boarding and playing in the pool (boogie boards were AWESOME fun - $15 for the day). We elected to rent a cabana to get guaranteed shade and we were very pleased. It was a splurge but worth it with a cooler full of sodas and water, chips, cookies and in the afternoon, a plate of fresh cut up fruit. You can get a cabana on the beach or at one of the pools, I think beach is a lot better, you are on a platform with a spectacular view of the ocean with your own hammock. We also spent our last night at El Convento Hotel in Old San Juan – whether you stay the night or just go for the day, OSJ is not to be missed.
Back to the resort, the beach was lovely with just the right amount of waves, our room was an OK size and comfortable, we had a lovely view of the pool and ocean. We used the kids club once and even though it was just a single room, our 5 and 10 yr old stayed one night 5-9pm and LOVED it. The pool was large and well maintained and there was a fun, short slide. The concierges were sweet but useless, I felt like I knew more about the area than they did! Do your research first and you will not need them. Also, as other reviewers have advised, go over your bill carefully. There were 5 mistakes on mine, but they were all corrected with a minimum of hassle.
We loved our stay, felt it was worth every penny but I would advise you to look for deals, esp in summer (we paid around $200/night b/o discounts, this does not include the $40 something resort fee/night) and I need to say it again – RENT a car! Staff is truly wonderful and anything some employees may lack in competence, they make up for in true effort and friendliness. We are so sad to leave!

“Wyndham Grand beautiful place, exceptional service”

We picked this property because it was a Wyndham Grand, the top of the line for Wyndham. The staff was fantastic, especially Angelica Marques at the front desk. She went out of her way to provide us with connecting rooms, and an amazing view off our balcony of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. She excelled with exceptional service. Our room was an ocean front, great view, nice size. Bathroom was spacious. The beach was great, especially if you like waves. There was always a constant breeze and if a rainstorm came through, it usually passed within ten minutes. The food and drinks are pricey, but hey, you are on vacation right? Sea Breeze had the best lunch food. Paello the best dinner food an Marbella was good for breakfast. Did not like the Grille House at the golf course or Shima's. Every staff person we encountered was very friendly and so willing to help. I applaud them for such outstanding service.

To start things off, we got an incredible deal to stay here. It was EXTREMELY affordable. I would not pay $250+ per night but I really wouldn't pay that to stay anywhere.

This resort is fabulous - it's great for families and couples. The beach and pools are phenomenal and yes, the food is outrageously expensive so we ate outside of the hotel. You MUST rent a car if you want to leave the resort and there's lots of dining options within 20 minutes of the property.

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel - we had the best time and we were there for 7 nights.
