“Boring!!”

Villas Marlin

3 of 5 stars
Indiana
Mar 5, 2008

We just got back from Cancun on 3/1/08. We go to Mexico every February the last 5 years. This place was boring. But it all depends on what you are looking for. We took our 6 year old little girl. She was the only child there all week. She had no one to play with. The pools and their restrooms are all very nice and brand new since Wilma, but small. The hot tubs are not hot. 80% of the people are over 60 years old. There were Spring Breakers everynight running through the halls waking us up at 3:00 am. We rented from a Private Owner, he was very easy to deal with over the 6 month process, but we were disappointed with the unit. It was very clean though. Sheets, towels, bedspreads etc. seemed to be around ten years old. The bed was so hard that it did not move when you sat on it. The poor bartender two days in a row had zero customers. One of the reasons probably was that nachos and a drink cost me $19.00. The location is awesome, right behind the big Luxury Mall. They had tons of places to eat and shop. Chocolate City was very good. Keep in mind each unit will be different due to they are all owned by different people. Some of the units we saw were very nice. I would say if you are over 50 and want a quiet place, this place is for you.

We have stayed at Villas Marlin on 3 different prior occasions with the exception of last year when they were still doing reconstruction from hurricane Wilma and have always enjoyed our stay there. We recently returned from our family Thanksgiving vacation and I just felt I should let
your prospective guests know that they have done a beautiful job of reconstructing and renovating the property. All of the ocean front pools, bathrooms and common areas are brand new with a very comfortable and relaxing design. We have always rented from Frank and Jacky who are private owners of five condos there and as usual the units were very clean, well
equipped and everything worked well. Our housekeeper Landy who has been there forever took great care of us and we look forward to seeing her every time we go to Cancun. This year they added an extra amenity, free wireless access. Since we traveled with our two teenage daughters, they were thrilled
to be able to stay connected with their friends back home. We booked several different tours to various tourist destinations and the tour buses picked us up and dropped us off at Plaza Kulkukan which is right across the street from Villas Marlin which was very convenient. La Isla mall is just a few blocks down the boulevard, easily within walking distance and our teenagers found plenty to do and see right in the immediate area. There are dozens and dozens of great restaurants very close by ranging from economic to world class cuisine so there is no shortage of dining options. We had a wonderful time during our Thanksgiving getaway. If you are looking for an alternative to the usual crowded and hectic commercial hotel packages I strongly suggest you consider renting a condo for your next vacation. We returned home feeling relaxed, refreshed and looking forward to our next trip to Cancun.

Best Carribbean family value in the Yucatan. How do you beat ocean view, ocean front, new pools that overlook the ocean, clean condos with maid service four times a week. Round the clock security, hospitable tenants and vacationers from all around the world. Close to all the Cancun attractions. Easy access to groceries and day trips. Maybe the best exotic vacation value on the planet! We stayed for 3 weeks and had a blissful, restful, and wonderful times. Not to mention the Mayan / Mexican people are as nice as you'll find anywhere. By the way we are a family of four with children ages 5 and 7.

We were at the Villas Marlin 3/31/07 - 4/14/07 and had a great time. The pool areas and bathrooms were all brand new, Thank you Wilma. Our vacation was originally set for 4/06 Easter, but had to be changed due to Wilma. The entire pool area was new, beautiful, and really made the place!!!. The children's pool was very handy for my family of 6, with the young ones having a blast, and I didn't have to worry. There was even a small swing set/play set for them to use. The condo we stayed in was very clean and met my family's needs for what I needed. There was Landy the cleaning lady who was sweet as pie and did a great job. The unit was older but had a safe, a full refrigerator, a microwave, and a great ocean view every night from our deck. I felt safe there because of the security gate and actually saw them turn someone away that didn't have the proper paperwok to get access!! The Villas Marlin was in a great location and had a very handy store and internet access available. We met a few American owners and a few Mexican owners who were great. We took the bus into Cancun every night to eat and get away from the Hotel Zone prices!! We rented from Frank & Jackie who were more than great! If your looking for a great location, clean accomodations, friendly people, than The Villas Marlin is the place for you. We went to Walmart and a very cool mexican supermarket that was better than Walmart!! We stocked our condo with breakfast stuff, snacks for the kids, and PB& J for lunch while we were at the pool areas. We had Landy clean every other day. This is not a fancy place, but very affordable and clean. You will not get drink/snack/ or room service. We actually only slept in our condo and spent all of our time at the NEW pools, beach, dolphin swimming, and sky riding. There was a third pool almost open with a swim up bar and looked like a restaurant was going to be there in the near future. We would recommend Villas Marlin 100 % for families!

“Loved it!”

I wonder about all of the negative reviews about this place. Obviously, it's those individuals whom are looking for a 5 star resort. You’re not going to get that at Villas Marlin. What you are going to get is your private condo - meaning, not a hotel room with maid service every day, or a bar and restaurant, or fancy flooring and furniture, ect... The condos are great. My family had the opportunity to stay at two different condos and both of them I would recommend.

Villas Marlin is still under construction, but what do you expect after having on of the largest hurricanes hover over your city for 3 days that nearly destroyed Cancun. Yes, they are still in recovery, but if you had seen the place after the hurricane then you would understand. Several of the book stores there sell books that share in great detail what Cancun looked like and how devastating their conditions were. If you’re going to visit Cancun, take some time to learn their history and major events that affected them.

This place is great if you are a family traveling with kids. It's a safe place that is tucked away from the highway and you don't hear loud noises. It's located with walking distance to two great shopping malls. It also closes to a few mini-marts - one located at Villas Marlin. I had two 12 year old kids with me and did not hesitate to allow them to go either to the mall across the parking lot or the mini-mart by themselves. Villas Marlin is guarded 24/7. The owners of the mini-mart in Villas Marlin are great. I recommend if you need to use the phone to call to the USA, to use their services. They charge only 5 pesos for 1 minute of calling time. Much cheaper then calling from your condo! The property manager is also a great and a friendly person to work with. Their maid service is wonderful. They are such sweet people. And, if your condo does not have a washer and dryer, they offer laundry service right there at Villas Marlin.

When I was there only one pool was open and the other two were still under construction. The one pool that was open was for kids, but they have plenty of lounging chairs around it for the adults to enjoy the sun. And of course, the beach is right there. Plenty of activity going around, so there is no time to get board. The waters at this part of the beach are ruff, but most of the waters in Cancun are ruff. If you are going to allow your kids in the water, always be there to watch them. There are always lifeguards on the beach, but they usually can only watch certain sections. And there are lifeguards located close to Villas Marlin. Not only that, but it always seemed like a few Villas Marlin employees were always watching over my kids when they were out there.

What else can I say? This place is great. Just don't expect a 5 star hotel resort. Expect a great private condo just for you. Oh yeah, and Wet 'n' Wild is right down the street from them.
