The resort was great! When we arrived I couldn't believe how beautiful the property was. The West Maui Mountains are in the background and looking out of our room we could see other islands through the trees that lined the beach. Everything was first class. Lots of nice loungers all around the resort and lots of BBQ grills located throughout the property. The bed was to die for and I didn't want to leave it behind. The only things that we didn't really like were the lack of on site entertainment and there was a gassy smell that would drift over from a construction site from time to time. There is also depot for the Sugar Cane Train right across the road. You can get a 2 adult & 2 child 2 week pass for $80 at the resort and if your kids like trains, they will love it. It is slow but the kids like it.

“Loved the New North Property”

Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas

We are owners at the new North Villas. We purchased at this site before anything was built and waited two years to stay here. The North villas are much better than the first phase of villas. It really had a calming sophisticated feel to the whole resort. We were the first guests to stay in the two bedrrom lockoff unit. It was very quiet with very few children unlike the other phase which is centered around families. The quality of furnishings and all other amenities were superb. The only drawback is housekeeping. We paid for tidy service and it was not worth the fee's at all. Nothing is cleaned during your stay only new towels are provided. For the amount of money we spent to be owners actual housekeeping services would have been appreciated. We also had an incident of another guest walking into our room. This was very upsetting and the management was notified asap about their error. We had a very nice time and will be spliting our time between this North villa and the Kuaui villas in 2008.

“Excellent location with excellent service - even the 2nd time around”

Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas

This is our second time at Kaanapali Ocean Resort (KOR) and we loved it again and again (I'm actually writing this review during our 2nd trip to KOR). The first time we reserved a 2-bedroom lockoff with an ocean view in bldg 3 (on the left side of the pool) and this time we're staying in bldg 3 in a premium deluxe 1-bedroom with an extra long lanai (w/ 2 lounge chairs and 2 upright chairs with tables), facing the waterfall fountain. The rooms are excellent, as is typical with all Westin time share properties, and this time around we have enjoyed the pools and beach almost every day. We even enjoyed the kids' pool with our young children (age 6 & 3) with friends who were also staying in Maui and have young children. Our daughter also enjoyed the Westin Kid's Club during our owners update.

This year, we were able to visit the North property and had dinner at Pulehu which has an excellent view of the koi pond. The ambience kind of reminded me of the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas near the Okada Japanese restaurant. The room accommodations are nice and while KOR doesn't have the flat panel TVs like the KOR North property, this is of minor point since the rooms are larger in the South property. I personally think the pool is also nicer on the South property.

What can we say about KOR except that it is one of the nicest Starwood time share properties. Our parents also own at Princeville and we own at Mission Hills (Rancho Mirage), Lagunamar (Cancun) and separately at Walt Disney World (Wilderness Lodge). We have stayed at Rancho Mirage, Desert Springs, the Kierland, and stopped by to see the St. John lobby when we were touring the island.

My only two minor complaints about our stay are 1) I wish the TV cable connection was cleaner (there was ghosting on a number of channels) and 2) I wish the room had filled salt and pepper shakers. Other than that, there are plenty of pros to list. The concierge staff was able to book reservations for an underwater sub tour on the Reef Dancer for ourselves and our kids and even worked behind the scenes to credit our account when our tour was cancelled on our first chosen day by the Reef Dancer tour and then subsequently re-booked us for another day.

We also attended an "owners update" to find out the current inventory on hand for sale. New units are practically all sold out on the North property with the South property being sold out long before (only a few units are available on hand from owners trading in for units in the North property). The sales staff was very pleasant and did not try a "hard sale" on us as we have experienced with other time share companies (we've tried them all). Unfortunately, the units that we would ideally like to purchase (Ocean View on the North Property) are already sold out so we opted to not purchase one of the remaining Island View units nor purchase the current Kauai (Princeville) property since our family already owns that property.

We will definitely be back at KOR and perhaps we'll add to our Westin collection if we can find our ideal property on the open resale market since Westin no longer has inventory for our ideal unit.

“Condo convenience, resort amenities, spectacular location”

Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas

We are owners at the Sheraton timeshare in Orlando and swapped to stay here. This place is wonderful. We knew what to expect in terms of unit features and it fully lived up to expectations. Units are fairly new and well appointed.

This was our second week in Hawaii and after a first week of hotels and going out for breakfast and trying to snack in room, it was wonderful to have a full kitchen. Everyone got up at their own pace, I had my Kona coffee sitting on the lanai. The extra space in a condo-unit makes for a much more relaxed attitude.

The pools are excellent. Crystal clear and warm. There are several between the various buildings and all beautifully designed. And you are 100 feet from the ocean on a private beach. A board walk leads you down. Towel service was extremely convenient. Picked up a little sand? No problem,. just trade your towel in for a fresh one at any of the towel booths. They also offer snorkeling and other equipment for rent which is great because you will definitely want to swim with the fishes (not in the Godfather sense).

The poolside restaurants are very relaxed and convenient. You can spend the entire day eating, swimming, body surfing , snorkeling, relaxing, drinking and never have to even put on shoes.

The complex is huge, connecting both the south and north units which are treated as separate resorts, but it's really all one big place. It's located 10-15 minutes north of Lahaina (depending on traffic). Driving is very easy but parking in Lahaina can be tricky. At teh resort there is nothing within walking distance other than the resort restaurants so you'll definitely want to get out once in a while. There are many good restaurants along the main road and in Lahaina. And there is plenty of parking at the resort so it was never a hassle coming back.

We were there second week of May and it was still considered "off season" so it was wonderfully uncrowded. It was easy to find open chairs in the shade any time of day.

While you are there, be sure to do a Luau. There's plenty to choose from. They all sound similar. We did the one at the Hyatt and it was what we expected.

If you are a but more adventurous, you can try scuba diving. I highly recommend Jay at Scuba Gods (scubagods.com). Nicest guy you'll meet, patient and great with beginners. None of us had gone scuba before. We did an 'introductory dive' where he provides basic training just to get comfortable with equipment and breathing underwater, etc.. Then he guided us out along the coral reef for about 45 minutes. It was an awesome experience. And I recommend you opting for teh second tank as you will want to do a second dive!

And most definitely take a helicopter tour of the island. There's many to choose from. We went with Blue Hawaiian. My only advice is don't skimp because of cost. It's expensive anyway, so go with a full island tour. Our tour included landing on Haleakala to sip some pineapple "champagne".

There are many many resorts to choose from on Maui. But from our experience, you won't go wrong at the Westin VIllas.

“Weekend fun at Westing Kaanapali Ocean Villas”

Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas

We spent the weekend at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas. We had a studio with an ocean view. The king bed was very comfortable, the room was well equipped. We grilled, using the resorts gas grills the first night. The grills worked OK, it seems that they only had one of two burners operational on each of the grills. The grills could have been cleaner. We had a problem with the ice maker in our mini-fridge. The tray that holds the ice was missing. After calling housekeeping, they didn't have the right size tray but were able to jury rig something so that the ice machine would work. They were very responsive. They did bring us ice while we waited for the ice machine to provide. The beach and pool area were fabulous. We ate at the pool side breakfast buffet one morning - a bit pricey for the selection provided but what do you expect for resort food. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the underground parking was convenient to the room. We enjoyed ourselves and definitely would go back.
