“Great Hotel and Great City”

Le Pavillon Hotel

Jun 27, 2008

My stay at Le Pavillon could not have been any better. When you enter the hotel lobby, it is immediately evident a great deal of love and care has gone into maintaining this beautiful and historic hotel. I can imagine this hotel probably looks as good or better now than it did when it opened over 100 years ago. This attention to detail carries over to the guest rooms. The suite we stayed in was imaculately maintained with beautiful antiques throughout.

Perhaps more impressive than the building was the hotel staff. Often hotels of this caliber can be stuffy and pretentious. Not Le Pavillon. I have never felt so welcome and at home in a hotel before in my life! Le Pavillon captures the essence of what makes New Orleans such a special city (the people and culture). Make sure you have breakfast in the Crystal Room and let Ms. Pat make you a special omlet. She is unforgetable.

By the way, New Orleans is definitely getting back in the swing of things. The streets in the French Quarter are extremely clean and the food is better than ever.

“A historic hotel, wonderful staff”

Le Pavillon Hotel

Jun 20, 2008

My husband and I stayed at Le Pavillon for one week in June, while he attended a conference in NOLA. Consistent with other reviewer comments, the first room assigned, was small for the large size furniture it was expected to accommodate and it also needed some TLC. When we mentioned our concerns to front desk staff, they addressed each quickly. We had opportunity to move to a larger room, when another couple checked out, and enjoyed it immensely for the balance of our stay. The staff from the front desk, housekeeping, bar and dining room were impeccable in their service delivery and general friendliness.

We enjoyed the roof top pool and hot tub, cabanas, and the late night peanut butter and jelly sandwich tradition at this fine hotel. The elegance of the hotel, coupled with the warmth of the people we met, made for an excellent first trip to NOLA, start to finish. Le Pavillon, and its staff, will remain a wonderful part of our memories of this great City still recovering "post Katrina".

Tip for the Do it Yourself Traveller: Get a "ride all day" $5.00 pass for the Transit from Guest Services. Take the St. Charles Streetcar to the Garden District to enjoy the fine homes and universities. Consider getting off at Washington Avenue to visit Lafayette Cemetery, and enjoy a snack or meal at the Camellia Grill or Le Madeline at the "end of the line" before catching another streetcar back to the hotel. The stop for the St. Charles streetcar is less than a block from Le Pavillon. Enjoy!

“An Historic Jewel in the Heart of the City!”

Le Pavillon Hotel

This hotel was built in 1907 and it is located a few blocks away from Canal Street, which separates the old French Quarter area from the other parts of town. You are not in the noisy or rowdy parts of town here, and your accomodations are not strictly as "modern" as they might be at some of the newer properties, but there is a grace about Le Pavillon that is very appealing, especially if you are a grownup (of any age). Enjoy the Victorian feel of the loby and lounge with its glorious chandeliers; and the late night snacks provided in the lobby.
The management and the staff are nothing but courteous and helpful. Some of our fellow visitors said that their room was too small perhaps, but we could not complain as we were upgraded quite grandly from the room we had reserved.
My family especially enjoyed the rooftop pool at night. When we were there, we had it almost to ourselves with the exception of another small group with whom we shared some great conversation. It's not a kid's "splashy" type of situation- again this is an elegant "lady" of a property, a great value for its location and quietness.
Valet parking is standard at Le Pavillon. You will pay a fee for it but parking in New Orleans is going to cost money any-which-way you look.

“Great Deal at $100 Per Night”

Le Pavillon Hotel

We called the hotel directly and our four-night stay cost us just $450 including all taxes -- and we were upgraded to a deluxe king room. The room was smallish and narrow, and the bathroom could have used a lot more shelf space. Still, everything was clean and dirt-free (except for a few areas which required the moving of furniture), and nicely appointed.

Pros: free bottled water, turn-down service, plenty of towels, a good bed, lots of hot water and solid water pressure, shower head high on wall, room-darkening curtains, friendly and competent staff (especially the taxi starters and bell staff).

Cons: bottom sheet of bed not fitted, ineffective half-size splash-guard in shower, air conditioner makes loud "pops" if fan set to "auto," bathroom door opens outward (due to sink placement), shower head is non-adjustable, we had to ask for more pillows (only got three), the usual hallway noise/talking and slamming of doors, pricey room service.

The hotel is a few blocks from the French Quarter, and we took a lot of streetcars and taxis during our stay to get to other attractions. It's in a business area, which seemed quiet, well-lit and safe, even during a late-night walk back to the hotel. The rooftop pool and jacuzzi were more appealing in the photos. Overall, the place's sparkling appearance belies its age of 100 years. Recommended.

“Loved the charm!”

If you like historic hotels, this is place to be. The grandeur of the place wows most people. We even considered this place for our wedding! My only complaint about the rooms is that some may need to be updated.

Not only is the place gorgeous, but service is impeccable. The staff is friendly, courteous, and accommodating. Out of 4 stays, we may have had a problem *once* with a slightly slooow valet. Warning: If this is your first time visiting NOLA, be prepared to pay $25-30 a night for parking at any hotel.

Le Pav is a few blocks from the Quarter, but is worth the walk or cab ride -- highly recommended on a hot New Orleans summer day!
