This was one of the worst places I have EVER stayed. There is NO iron or ironing board. There is NO hair dryer. The internet was DOWN and the electricity was out for about 6-8 hours. My room phone did not work. There are only about 10 channels on the TV. It is VERY loud there. I had booked 7 nights but left after 2 because it was so crappy. They charged my card $300 over what the 7 nights would be and NEVER told me and it is NOT on any paperwork that they give you. I told the clerk that we were not happy and she said, "well, you owe me this much.". They should not have charged us for the 2nd night. It was hot and miserable....

Just returned from a very enjoyable trip to Hawaii. In Waikiki we stayed at the Equus and really liked it. First all the good things about it,the size, small and friendly,updated room very nicely done,the location is a bit out of the thick of things but in an area I like. We had an ABC store on the corner and a bus stop 1 block away.The room we had wasn't big (but not too small either)nor was the nicely tiled shower or bathroom. Almost the only complaint I had was that the sound proofing wasn't good. We weren't bothered at night but during the day the hotel was noisy.The lobby is very cosy and is used for the free continental breakfast, and provides a wonderful place for guests to mingle.I will include some pictures.

Not knowing much about Waikikii, we booked the hotel as it was close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. 5min walk.
The room was clean, plus there was enough room for two weeks worth of shopping and bags. Coffee was provided, and a small mini fridge.
We booked a room with two double beds, and it was the most comfortable sleep I had in Honolulu.
We were in Waikikii to shop and sightseeing, so the hotel was afforable and all we wanted was a good nights sleep. The only problem was you had to carry your bags up a few steps, but the staff were more than happy to assist.

The young lady , Athena, was always friendly and had a welcoming smile. Fantastic after a hectic days shopping.

I recommend the hotel for a good nights sleep. But if you are after Resort style, lie by the pool holiday., cocktail bar service. Not here.
We were happy with what we paid for, and that was a comfortable clean, welcoming, cosie style hotel and we got it.

I was pleasantly surprised that I could find a nicely appointed hotel near the beach in Waikiki for $100 a night! All the rooms had been renovated with granite and tile bathrooms (although I had no tub so inquire if you need one), flat screen TV, patio with furniture, internet access (some rooms have it included as part of the flat screen tv! How fun!), SS fridge/freezer, and a coffee maker. It has the feel of an adolescent timeshare condo with more than the usual hotel room. The only possible negative observation worth stating is that if you are claustrophobic or tend toward XXL sizes, you may want to also inquire about larger rooms since the bathrooms, showers and general room space is on the tight side. Personally I liked it that way but for some it may be a drawback

There was a light breakfast of pastries, coffee, fruit and fruit juices in the lobby, a small pool and an ice machine. I enjoyed the cocktail happy-hour Wednesday put on by the manager, David.

Although the location is not on the beach, there are city buses which cost $2 and include one transfer, there are free shopping shuttles that take you to all the common spots during the day, and of course it is a really nice walk. The Ala Moana shopping center is close walking distance as well.

If you don't like dated, impersonal overpriced hotels, this is a good bet to try.
