“Good Hotel”

Holiday Inn San Juan

It was a good choice for a 5 night stay in PR. The lobby is spacious and very clean. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The pool area looks nice but we never really used it. The staff is friendly and willing to help in any way. The beach is very close, a straight line walk, about 3 minutes.

There are 3 restaurants in the hotel: Asian, American and Puerto Rican. The asian bistro had very good food at hotel prices. The Puerto Rican place, "Coladas", was exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were not the usual high hotel prices. The wait staff was really friendly.

The location is walking distance to everything: bus stop, other restaurants (we had lunch at Ponderosa, good salad and soup bar), casinos (Intercon and El San Juan). I guess you could walk to the Ritz but we didn't.

If you don't mind not being on the beach, I would definitely stay at this hotel. It met our needs completely.

The entire staff was very polite and helpful...anything i needed i got it right away, i was here for about 3 weeks working and a long way from home but they all knew that and went out of their ways to make me feel at home. I could not have asked for a better place to stay here in puerto rico, thanks to them all once again

Please forgive this long winded venting and understand before you read this that we've always written rave reviews about our travels before this one......We read mixed Trip Advisor Reviews of this property, some good, some bad. The most common complaint seemed to be children making loud noises in the hallways at all times of the late evening. In retrospect, it now seems we were a bit naive thinking these complaints were probably just some spoil sport "children hating folks". Boy, were we wrong!! This was just one of a string of events that made this stay our most miserable ever (and we travel all the time). Unfortunately we stayed here Mar 7th, Mar 15th, Mar 23rd, 24th, 25th 2008. We would have cancelled immediately because of the unfriendly staff, dirty, cold (the rooms are either real cold, very cold or freezing) and have cramped & extremely small bathrooms. Due to Holiday Inn's "No Refund" policy we weren't willing to through away over a thousand dollars. We had booked the rooms for 2 seperate cruises we were taking out of Puerto Rico. OK, for openers, upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by rude, unfriendly people at the front desk. A classic example that this might have been a bad idea that wasn't going to turn out well. We were told that we needed to pay for the rooms but we produced documentation that showed we had already prepaid for the rooms (just our dumb luck as it turns out). Well, the 1st night, just like it was scripted, the little ones made their late night running wild in the halls appearance. We were both so tired and had to get up early to catch our cruise ship so we just tried to ignore it and get some to sleep. We complained the next morning and the front desk staff seemed offended that we noticed or mentioned the unruly disturbance. We returned to the hotel after our 1st cruise to spend the night before our next cruise. Again we were told to produce a credit card to pay for our stay and showed the desk person our proof of payment, but she said their records didn't show our payment was made even though we had reservation confirmation. This temporarily excited us because we thought we'd be able to leave & book elsewhere. She finally confirmed our confirmation (darn). At midnight, we were awaken by very loud screaming, door slamming and door knocking. Shocked out of a dead sleep, we thought someone was either getting murdered or a bunch of drunken sailors were roaming the halls. I called the front desk and let it ring for a long time but nobody answered. I even tried housekeeping with no luck. I decided to confront the rebel rousers and discovered about 8 young children running wildly in the halls. I tried to tell them to be quiet and go back to their rooms, but they didn't speak english and I didn't speak spanish. Finally my wife got a hold of security and they said they'd be up to take care of the problem. In the meantime, some gentleman from across the hall stepped out and yelled at the kids to knock it off. They also ignored him. Then security showed up and we heard doors slam and slience return......for about 2 minutes. This went on unchecked until after 2AM. Then next morning at checkout, we told the front desk about the incident (she'd apparently received many complaints) and she said the hotel would compensate us when we returned with a room away from this problem and with an ocean view. Actually, the front desk gal said at this time, and I quote - "Oh, you know, those kids are from Ecuador". Let the reader decide what tha's supposed to mean. We think that this must be an ongoing problem that the Holiday Inn doesn't address and that probably these parent's must go out and party leaving the kids alone and unsupervised. On our 3rd return, the front desk again wanted us to give them a credit card for payment. After straightening that out, we were told that we were scheduled to be put in room # 538 - corner room, ocean view and they would have it ready for us in 1 to 2 hours maximum...that it was being cleaned right now. We returned to the hotel 2 1/2 hours later and were told it'd be another 1/2 hour or so before the room would be cleaned and ready. Around 3 hours later we finally got a room but it wasn't the ocean view room # 538 because it wasn't ready yet....instead we were given one with street frontage. At this point, a room was a room. As it turned out, our room # 538 was given out earlier in the day to our fellow passengers from the cruise (funny how things get back to you). The whole "it's not clean" thing was just a lie. If you're still reading, we applaud you. After we retired for the evening the hotel alarm went off and we were hearded downstairs to the lobby. Are you ready? Surprise.......we were told it was a false alarm and that some kids had set it off. Guess who's not on our Christmas list? Anyway, we hope this helps you make an informed decision to have a nice vacation destination and "NEVER" stay here!! You're welcome to contact us at zenoandzeno@yahoo.com with any questions.

We booked our room via an online auction www.skyauction.com and had no issues.

King Size 4 post bed...Pool Side The mattress is to die for. The room was a touch small for a king size but no big deal. You are 1.25 blocks from the best beach area in San Juan and you have tons of restaurants around. Closest Casino + must see hotel at night is the EL SAN JUAN HOTEL 2 blocks away. I hope this helps in your selection

“Excellent Hotel near the beach”

We arrived early morning at the hotel. We were lost for a few minutes since it was very hard to see the street signs at night. The front desk Manager and the bell guy took good care of us since they knew we were very tired. Our room was great and comfortable. It had several pillows just as I had requested. The services and hospitality superb. The hotel is one block away from the beach. The service was excellent. If any one is interested in eating real Puerto Rican food, there is a small restaurant called "La Casita Restaurant". It's located at the plaza next to the Holiday Inn on your right hand side, right on Isla Verde. We had the best "Monfongo with mix seafood." The restaurant is very clean, organized, and has style to it. At this location everything is near including the airport. Keep in mind parking is additional every where you go. You really do not need a car in this area. Unless you are visiting family. I recommend this hotel.
